March For Pot People have made a big stink of late over the government changing it's mind and not legalizing pot. Well, no, actually, they haven't and that's what's holding them back. There has been no big protests, no marches, no banners. Personally I'm not for or against the use or legality of marijuana. I couldn't care either way. In that respect, I'm similar to the people that want it legalized. What? What's the connection? Neither myself, nor the people that want legal pot are doing anything about it. When the government turned down full decriminalization of marijuana, there were some quiet outcries. There were those weeping to the papers. Mostly, there were comments along the lines of, "I'm really bummed out, dude." Oddly enough being "bummed out" doesn't win revolutions. Over and over, I hear of people (the pro-potters anyway) saying that the government isn't being fair. So many people use marijuana, it's fairly harmless and the government makes them into criminals. Terrible, isn't it? No, it makes sense. Most people who smoke pot act like criminals. That's the problem. They hide in their parent's basements, they hide bags of cannabis under their jackets and sneak around like they have something to hide. This isn't normal, socially acceptable behaviour. It's the actions of a criminal. If marijuana is so damn useful, so harmless and so many people use it, then stop acting like it's a big thing. Hey, all you pot smokers, get out there and ... Hey, dude, are you still awake? Never mind. Stop acting like you're hiding something bad, like a bomb or a dead body and start being proud of what you're doing. Arlo Guthrie once said that if you want to win a war, you gotta sing loud. When Martin Luther King Jr. wanted rights for black people, what did he do? He went out and marched, he didn't try to hide his skin colour. When homosexuals wanted to be recognized by society, did they hide in their basements? No, they went out and paraded. When the hippies wanted an end to the Vietnam war, did they...Wait, they did hide in basements and smoke weed. But they also got out there and protested. Yes, people get arrested. Yes it takes time. But if you whinny dope smokers want to get "rights" to smoke up, then get out there and march! This is a democracy, it has nothing to do with the facts or with the well being of the People. It has to do with popular opinion. So get some people together, if you can drag them out of hiding, and light up. Start smoking pot in the streets by the thousands and see what happens.
